It is our pleasure to announce that Prof. Cynthia Friend of Harvard University will be joining us on March 28th and 29th, 2018 as our 57th Edward Mack Jr. Award Lecturer.

A little bit more information about our speaker:

Cynthia Friend is the Theodore William Richards Professor of Chemistry and Professor of Materials Science at Harvard University, and was the first female full professor of Chemistry at Harvard. Her lab is well known for studying the physical and chemical properties of interfaces in the context of catalysis, alternative energy, and environmental chemistry, and Prof. Friend has published over 260 papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Prof. Friend earned her B.S. at the University of California at Davis with Prof. Peter Rock, her Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley with Prof. Earl L. Muetterties, and was a post-doctoral research fellow at Stanford University with Prof. Robert J. Madix. In addition to her professorship at Harvard, she is also the director of both the Rowland Institute for Science and the Energy Frontier Research Center on Integrated Mesoscale Architectures for Sustainable Catalysis.

She is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Chemical Society. Her numerous awards include the American Chemical Society National Award in Surface Chemistry, American Chemical Society George C. Olah Award in Hydrocarbon Chemistry, American Chemical Society Garvan Medal, and Distinguished Young Alumni Award of University of California at Davis, among others.

Additionally, she has served as an editor for numerous journals, including: Accounts of Chemical Research, The Journal of the American Chemical Society, Chemical Sciences, and ACS Catalysis.
