Brandon Iwaniec

Ph.D. Student | OSBP

Originally from Michigan, Brandon comes to us by way of Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, where he obtained his BS in Biochemistry and MS in Chemistry. In his graduate research work at EMU and he studied the interactions between the Alzheimer’s survival peptide, humanin, and its interactions with amyloid beta and acetylcholinesterase.

In Jane’s lab, Brandon studies guanylyltransferase enzymes involved in tRNA modification (Thg1 and TLPs). His current goal is to understand the substrate of Myxococcus xanthus TLP and the TLPs role in fruiting body formation. Brandon hopes to use the skills developed during his PhD to conduct research or teach classes at a university.

Outside of lab, Brandon enjoys hanging out with his friends, family, watching movies and TV shows, and eating Jell-O. Like Nathan and Ben, he is also a fierce competitor at any board game, video game, but definitely no sports you put in front of him.
