Thaanya Amarasekara

Graduate Student | Ohio State Biochemistry Program

I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2021 from University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

My undergraduate research: Use of CadC from Bacillus species isolated from an industrial effluent for biosensor construction and elucidation of possible metal tolerance mechanism of cad operon.

After graduating, I worked as a teaching assistant in the same university until I joined OSU in 2022.

In the Jackman lab, I am looking at the substrate preferences of two Thg1 like proteins (TLPs); Aca TLP2 and Did TLP4 by using 3’ to 5’ extension assay and high-throughput small-RNA sequencing approaches.

Outside the lab I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, watching movies and cooking.
