    Katie Letsinger

Katie joined the Belyy Lab in spring of 2025 as a part of the Ohio State Biochemistry Program (OSBP). As a longtime “professional student,” she holds bachelor’s degrees in biomedical engineering (University of Tennessee, Knoxville) and biochemistry (Kennesaw State University) as well as a master’s degree in chemical sciences (also KSU). Her master’s research focused on using NMR to elucidate the structure of the Pseudomonas aeruginosa protein Ivyp2 in order to compare it to a previously described pathogenic homolog, Ivyp1. Outside of the lab, she spends much of her free time training for and competing in Historical European Martial Arts events as…

  • James Alltop

    James Alltop

James has joined OSU as a graduate student in the Ohio State Biochemistry Program (OSBP). He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the College of Wooster, where he majored in both Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BCMB) and English (English!). At Wooster, he worked with Dr. Ryan Arvidson, studying the molecular mechanism behind the sting of the Jeweled Wasp. For his degree in English, he started working on his own fantasy novel under the guidance of Dr. Claire Eager. In his free time, James can be found doing a variety of things, though most of them can be boiled down to two…

  • Adalyn Brown

    Adalyn Brown

Adalyn earned her Bachelor’s in Molecular Biosciences and Biotechnology at Arizona State University before coming to OSU to work on her PhD in Molecular Cellular and Developmental Biology. During her undergrad, Adalyn worked on studying the molecular mechanisms of evolution. Now, she has begun her journey, utilizing techniques such as single-molecule imaging to directly measure the oligomerization of plasma membrane receptors at natural expression levels as well as make further assessments on how cluster size and composition affect receptor activity. When Adalyn isn’t in the lab, she can be found at concerts, reading, swimming, or snuggling her basset hound, Ermie.

  • Daisy Alvarado

    Daisy Alvarado

Daisy came to OSU as a graduate student in the Biophysics Program with a bachelor’s in chemistry from St. John’s University. She has dabbled in research from computational biophysics to studying the structure and biochemistry of Protocadherins. She is interested in using biophysical techniques to investigate the activation of plasma membrane receptors through their oligomerization. Outside of lab, she loves to read and spend time with her family.

  • Jacob Smith

    Jacob Smith

Jacob is an OSU veteran, having earned a Bachelor’s in Biochemistry here before pursuing a PhD with the Ohio State Biochemistry Program. He has dabbled in research from virology to bioinorganic chemistry to synthetic biology and has now begun working on unraveling the mysteries of cell signaling, starting with the intrinsic signal attenuation of IRE1. When he isn’t in the lab, he can often be found reading, biking, cooking, or playing with his cat, Molasses.

  • Swapnil (Neil) Mukherjee

    Swapnil (Neil) Mukherjee

Swapnil (Neil) Mukherjee came to OSU as a graduate student in the Chemistry and Biochemistry department with a master’s degree in chemistry and little experience in biology research. He is interested in using biophysical techniques to study the activation of IRE1 through oligomerization and the events that take place thereafter. Outside of the lab, he considers himself to be a laptop musician and can be found twiddling knobs and playing with faders.
