Research in the Musier-Forsyth Laboratory focuses on retrovirus and coronavirus
RNA packaging by Gag/nucleocapsid proteins, tRNA primer packaging and the
assembly of HIV-1 and HTLV-1 reverse transcriptase initiation complexes, the role of
host cell aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases and tRNAs in viral lifecycles, fidelity mechanisms
in protein translation, and mechanistic studies of disease-causing mutations in human
EPRS.
Postdoctoral scientists have extensive opportunities for career development including
leading research projects, mentoring trainees, presenting research at local meetings
and national/international conferences, and writing manuscripts and grant
applications. The lab is located in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry on
the main campus of Ohio State University. Lab members benefit from an extensive and
vibrant community of scientists interested in RNA and viruses through regular
meetings with members of the Centers for Retrovirus Research and RNA Biology and
the Infectious Disease Institute.
Job Requirements
We are looking for motivated scientists with the ability to work independently as well as
in a collaborative research team. Candidates are expected to have strong written and
verbal communication skills, an ability to establish clear goals and organize and
prioritize work, and the willingness to work with a diverse team of scientists, including
postdocs, students, and technicians.
